Our History

Fenns (Farnborough) Limited can trace its roots back to the 1950's It offered a repair and overhaul service for both civil and military aircraft instrumentation, holding CAA and MoD design approval and vendor ratings for leading companies such as British Airways, Weston Helicopters and Smiths Industries, for whom they operated a worldwide service exchange scheme.

The company was located close to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE), with much of its work coming from the RAE and the Ministry of Defence.

In the late 1980s Fenns became involved with Night Vision after working on a number of projects, including fast jet instrumentation for the Ministry of Defence. The success of these projects led to the company’s creation of prototype Night Vision Goggles for the MoD’s Rotary Wing Aircraft. This prototype – the NG700 – outperformed products from rival manufacturers and went straight into service. There was similar success with the NG2000, created following the MoD’s requirement for lightweight NVGs.

With the NVG business going from strength to strength, it was soon given its own identity as Fenn Night Vision Limited.

Today

Fenn Night Vision Limited is now the country’s leading designer and manufacturer of Night Vision Goggles for aviation. These products have been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for single pilot use.

Immediately following the CAA approval, Fenn NVGs were taken into service by the East Midlands Police Air Support Unit in 2006. They became the first Police operation in the UK to work with the whole crew using Night Vision Goggles. Other Air Support units in the UK have subsequently ordered Fenn NVGs for their operations.

Fenn is also proud to have celebrated over 50 years of continual service to the Ministry of Defence. The company received commendations for its support to the RAF during the Falklands Campaign and the Gulf War.

“Our reputation as a company that can be relied upon to deliver at all cost is guarded with passion. We continue to build on and draw strength from the versatility, dynamism and proactivity that keep us at the forefront of the country’s defence industry.
